In her interview on Sonnets and Dirty Dishes, poet and artist Maggie O’Dwyer goes on to say: “It’s the making that motivates me. Doing the work gives so much back.”
We're back! After a long winter, we are delighted to arrive in spring with a new interview on Sonnets and Dirty Dishes. As a visual artist, Maggie O'Dwyer has been exhibiting regularly since she left art college in 1974, and as a poet she has published three books with Templar Poetry. Maggie's interview is full of insight into both the tenderness and toughness that she brings to her practice, as she talks resilience, trust and the practical business of having a workspace and making a living.
We have really enjoyed making a start this year on Sonnets + Dirty Dishes and have loved every interview. Now we leave you to your end of year festivities with this fantastically down to earth quote from our last interview with artist and gallery owner Sarah Walker.
Sarah tells S&DD: “A couple of years ago I started doing tapestry work. I design the tapestries and they’re made in Galway.
This is certainly something that many people will relate to – but, says artist Sarah Walker, it’s a problem that’s on the wane.
Sarah Walker is an artist and owner of the Sarah Walker Gallery in Castletownbere in West Cork. Born in Dublin, Sarah has lived and worked in West Cork since 1990. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally, with regular solo shows in Cork and Dublin over the course of her career.
Liliane Malemo makes her design work mean more by using vintage, reclaimed and upcycled fabrics; combining her artisan eye with her eco-conscious moral code in her brand ORII ReUp.
Liliane Malemo is an artisan clothing designer based in Brussels. In her interview with Sonnets and Dirty Dishes, she talks about how she uses reclaimed vintage fabrics to create her tailor made pieces.
On S&DD we’re fascinated by people’s work spaces because we know how important they are for artists and makers.
